7/8 year old boy hiding in his sister room trying on her underclothes. Normal?

My huband informed me that he noticed that our 10 year old daughter's room was closed and she was in an other room playing a game. This is unusual as her door is typically left open. He opened the door to find our 7, nearly 8, year old son wearing her panties, tights, and one piece bathing suit. He told me was surprised and not sure how to respond, so he just shut the door. My son came out a minute later wearing his own clothing. My husband did not discuss it with my son, but told me when I was done getting dressed myself. I'm not sure how or what to think. I have no brothers for personal reference and my husband reported he doesn't remember dressing in his sister's clothing. Thoughts about this?

In addition to the other ladie's advice, I would also mention to him that it's not polite to borrow another person's clothing without asking first. =)

Thanks ladies. I will have a discussion with him. I think he was just curious.

I'd sit down and talk to your son. Be VERY non threatening, assure him that he's not in trouble. Just ask why he wanted to dress in his sisters clothes. Depending on his answer, go from there.

I would emphasize what Kate said though. That underwear is not something he should borrow from anyone, because it could make him sick. If he wants to experiment with female clothes, perhaps buy him some of his own to experiment with on his own time in his own way.

But definitely talk to your son and find out what you can :) What you do after that should obviously reflect what your conversation found out :)

Is it "normal"? Well, I don't think I would say it's something most boys do. Does that make it a BAD thing? No...just something he does. However, I don't think trying on other people's underwear is a healthy habit (regardless of who's underwear it is). If he wants to play dress up get him some dress up clothes. You know, capes, hats, shirts, ties, dresses, shoes, gloves, skirts...the works. Let him explore and have fun. You can get a TON of clothes from the goodwill store for really cheap or just donate some of your old stuff. But, yea, no underwear swapping. That's not a good thing. :P
