Baby's hair texture

[deleted account] ( 9 moms have responded )

I have a baby boy and when he was born he had a full head of indian hair. At 21/2 mths old this full head of hair disappeared. Presently he is 9 mths and it is now starting to grow back but my concern is the texture. His dad is black and so am i but my great grandfather was pure indian so i have it in my blood. My son's hair i notice is still indian like at the top and sides but at the back it looks nappy and drier than the top and sides..... I would like to know is it that his hair is changing or is it because he lies on the back so his hair will appear that way? and at what age generally does a baby's hair texture change?

i am a hairdresser and have come across many adults and children with different hair textures. some people have had curls at the nape of neck and smooth waves on top and sides. it sounds like your baby will have some type of bend or curl through the hair and at the back and sides the rubbing from sleeping has made it go frizzy. his hair will continuesly change through his life, it will prob smooth out when he only has 1 sleep a day and the hair gets heavier and stay on the smoother side till puberty when curly haired ppl find it gets the most coarse. just keep the frizzy bits lightly trimmed to keep the hair from splitting and frizzing furthur. boys are easy cause you can just cut it off when it gets to crazy. good luck

my daughter has that "easily managed hair" it did get a little thin as she slept on it like you said. But you may just have to wait it out, at about 3 -4 months its usu. what it is. ENJOY UR BABY!!

I apologise for misunderstanding. but the statement looks nappy or is nappy is very minor. Hair is hair. Hair is not an issue.

My son was born with lots of brown hair and it slowly fell out and changed to blond when it came back in. The back was always matted and rougher texture than the rest, just from laying on it, like you said. Now he's two with tons of blond wavy hair, and the texture has evened out all over.

@laura...i never said that lying on his back makes it nappy....i said it LOOKS nappy.... meaning from lying it looks a bit messy and rough when compared to the front and sides like anna said... tsk

my daughter was born with a head full of hair and never lost it, it just kept getting thicker! lol
the back was always a bit messy and roughed up though and not as smooth. like you said. from the head rubbing against a bed, pillow etc. im sure it will grow in fine and that you have no need to worry :)

There is no age . Children are not the same There is no time table. How can lying on his back make his hair nappy?

I was told that most babies hair at birth falls out as permanent hair grows in. My daughter was born with almost black hair but it grew in light brown almost blond within a few months.
