One thing I would like to know how much do your sitters charge?? I'm not looking for full time just when Dad and I go out somewhere.. Also is there a shortage in teens that babysit now a days - when I was a teen that is how I made all my money, I paid for my own pager and then a cell phone also clothes and other things I wanted. It seems so hard to find a teen that wants to make money by babysitting, anyone else have this problem?? Where did you find you sitter?? Any suggestion will help thanks...

Oh one more thing I've heard of these babysitting co-op (swap)... Do any of you particiapate in something like this? How does it work? Did you know the people before or did you meet them because you were looking for a sitter??

Thanks again

most baby sitters charge between $8-10 per hour for one child, then it goes up from there for more than one child. you can try websites like sittercity.com and care.com. they are sites where you can make a profile and list your baby sitting job description and view baby sitter's profiles. i am listed on there as a baby sitter and it has worked well for me. i apply to new jobs as they are posted and the people who need child care call or email me. most everyone on there has completed back ground checks etc. you can look at their profiles to see what kind of experience they have and such.

I think what happened with there being a lack of teenage babysitters is, the ones old enough to look after kids have actual part time jobs (when I was a teenager and babysat "most" of the part time jobs were taken up by moms only wanting to work a few hours a week, now with the number of moms in the full time work force has opened up the jobs for the teenagers, yeah for them boo for us looking for reasonibly priced part time childcare) My teenage kids babysit outside the home and I cannot believe the amount of money parents are paying, I have a regular part time some time babysitter (whom i found thru Kijiji) we pay her $20.00 (she could be babysitting for an hour or 4) we made this arrangement with her from the very start gave it a trial run for 6 months so she could see she was getting a good deal - we get her when we go for groceries - if we want the little one out of the house for an hour so we can get it clean without the tornado following us around or if we go out for an evening of dinner and dancing - the set price makes it easy for her and us (we dont have to figure out how long we have been out x the going rate) hope some of this helps :) good luck

As a teen - I had my CPR for adults and infants, lifesaving cert, first aid cert, and took at least 3 courses for daycare. I had all the coolest forms, lol, for parents to fill out.

I don't see teens like I used to be any more. But they have to be out there.

I wonder the same thing - I'm not quite ready to leave the twins with a teenager but one day I would like to have an occasional sitter. I know when I used to babysit my neighbour's kids (this was about 20 years ago) I got paid $3 an hour for 2 kids.

baby sitting fees vary HUGELY from place to place in the same city.

When I was teen ( A LONG TIME AGO!) I got $10 = $20 an hour. I got into an exclusive group for fanatic bicyclists. These people paid $5000 UP!!! for their bicycles. And they got up BEFORE the crack of dawn to ride and I was compensated for it.

But I live in the sticks - boon docks - where god lost his shoes - and the sitter charges 50cents for older kids and $2 an hour for kids. 50cents for older kids who really don't need anything but a safe place to be, $2 for babies.

I used this woman based on recommendation and inspection of her home.
