Beets for my 8 month old

Hi there,

Does anyone know if it's ok to give my 8 month old daughter pureed or mashed beets? I read that it's one of those super foods for babies but the same story said spinich was as well. I found out that I need to wait until my daughter is atleast 1 yr before I offer spinich because of the high iron content, it can make her constipated and cause an upset stomach. Is this true with beets as well?

Hi Megan

My mother is Ukrainian and we make a soup called Borscht which is beet and also the leaves and other veggies. I don't make mine with meat. I tried giving my oldest son at a year old beets he didn't like them. But my second loves them a lot but again I started at a year. I never thought of giving them sooner. My son hasn't gotten upset stomach yet or constipated. If you start to see red when you increase your consumption of beets, don't be alarmed. You're just experiencing beeturia, or a red or pink color to your urine or stool. No need to panic; the condition is harmless.

This is a site I like using for baby food.
