Kerri -
Believe me, your 4 year old is listening to you like crazy. He/she is just starting to find an independent way in the world, so he/she is testing the waters to see what works and doesn't. You are the primary, most important factor in his/her environment so your buttons get the most attention. Ev is TOTALLY right. Stick to your guns, be considerate but consistent. I can tell you this because my 4 year old is now 7, "...this too shall pass".

This is because kids at this age are learning their independance more and more and you have to stick to what you have done before and not back down when saying no.

I'm going through this with my 3 1/2 year old. She suddenly doesn't seem to understand things that she has always understood and it is really hard to keep my sanity.
