Being all mothers here how would you react and say to your 13/14 yr old daughter asking you for belly piercing? And if you were the same age how would you confront/ask your mum??

It is legal with parental consent but I (A 13 year old girl who has a belly button piercing) strongly don't suggest it. This is my terrible story. You should read this to you daughters when they ask for a belly button piercing! ;)

It all started November 17th 2012 ( My 13th birthday). After begging and crying my parents finally let me get my belly button pierced. My mom took me to a nice reputable piercing/tattoo place. I got pierced and the pain was quite bad about a 8 out of 10. I cleaned it with H2ocean spray and all was fine until i went to a cheerleading competition and my coaches forced me to remove it. At that point I've only had my piercing for a week and the hole closed within 5 minutes of me preforming. A few months later I decided to re-pierce it. The needle went through scar tissue which made it hurt more ( 10 out of 10) the pain was terrible! I continued to clean it and I started to do warm sea salt soaks and everything was fine until I went on vacation and went in a chlorine pool. The chlorine dried out my piercing and made it hurt and hard to slide the jewellery. It began to bleed and ooze puss. Just recently I accidentally tugged my jewellery and now a boil has formed behind the piercing in my belly button. It is EXTREMELY painful and it stings very much.

Where I live, the minimum legal age to get a piercing without parental consent is 16. There is a reason for this, so that's when my daughter can get a piercing of her choice (other than her ears). There is no need for a 13/14 year old to have a belly button piercing, so I can't see her ever being able to give me a good enough reason to get one at that age.

Are you asking as a mother or daughter? Either way, I think it is not legal in most places to get any piercing s other than ears until you are 16 at least. Perhaps it would make a good 16th birthday present. Talk about it now, so the idea is on the table already, but I definitely think 13 or 14 is too young.
