Birth control the natural

My son is 8 weeks and I am exclusively breast feeding. I do not want to get on contraceptives...instead, my husband and I are wanting to do more of a natural "birth control" method. I was told that in order to track one's ovulation you simply track your period...well, what about if you are breast feeding and do not have a period? My midwife just suggested condoms, but they are just so expensive and we are trying to save every way possible with him being a teacher and me staying at home with our baby. Does anybody know an effective way of tracking ovulation and/or a natural birth control method? I've looked some methods that may be worth a try is tracking the vaginal mucus secretions, but I do not understand how to begin.

Buy or borrow "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. Very useful. My husband and I used that system (and condoms only when I'm fertile) and will again after I have my (planned) baby.

You can try any of the assortment of rhythm methods, you can also try pulling out.

The data on wikipedia shows that it's about the same failure rate as the rhythm method and it's a heck of a lot easier to figure out how to do it :P

I say just Google the heck out of different birth control options :) It can be difficult to know which one will be right for you.
