My baby is a year old and I am trying to help her make the transition. Any suggestions? Also, how much milk should she have a day? I am trying to balance it all....

I switched my daughter cold turkey after her first birthday. She cried the first night and we had no problem since. Maybe I was lucky or maybe this is the best way. Just do it.

I used the really soft tip sippys, nuby brand is one of them. There is also a sippy cup that Walgreens sells that has a soft tip a little bigger then the nipples used on the bottles. They are really reasonably priced and work great. I had my kids off the bottle within a day or 2. Good luck..

Hi Jen! This worked for me when I was weaning my kids from the bottle. First I cut back and only them gave them a bottle of milk at nap time and before bed. All other times throughout the day we used a sippy cup. I started with 1/2 apple juice and 1/2 water (to cut down on the sugar) in the sippy cups because they liked the sweet flavor. Eventually I started giving them a sippy cup with milk at naptime and before bed. If they still wanted a bottle at those times it was water only. Needless to say they didn't enjoy the water bottles as much and eventually gave them up on their own. Hope this helps! Good luck!

I used Gerber transition cups, my daughter loved them! I substituted 1 sippy cup in place of a bottle starting at 10 months and worked it all the way to no bottle. By the time she was one there was no bottle or formula, I even did the whole 1/2 formula 1/2 milk 2 weeks before she turned one so it was easier on her tummy and she recognized the taste of milk. All babies are different, it was my 1st so I asked everyone questions and then found out what she wanted and liked.

I used the really soft top sippy cups--the nuby brand I believe. The sippy part was just like the bottle and made it an easier transition. It was quite easy and didn't take but a few days and then we cut of the bottle totally. After she got the hang of it she moved on well to other sippy cups.

My son turned 1 a couple of months ago. He transitioned very smoothly to the sippy cup. I just started giving it to him during the day and I used cold milk (didn't warm it up). He is 14 mos old and I still give him a bottle right before bed. He drinks a few cups of milk a day as well as some water.

Try introducing the sippy cup at meals first. This will be the easiest time to get her to drink from it. You may have to remove the stopper at first until she understands how to suck from the cup. You will probably get some resistance at first, but keep trying. If she won't take a cup at lunch, try again at supper. If she doesn't take it today, try again tomorrow. The key is persistance. Offer the cup throughout the meal. Don't offer the bottle at this time, or you're giving in. If your child didn't drink anythingduring the meal then offer a bottle a bit later. They still need to get the fluids, but this way they know that the cup is for meal times and the bottle isn't. Good Luck
