Building your childs self-esteem

The deepest desire in a parents heart is to see ones child achieve success in life, yet how many of us realise that the most direct way to success is through spirit. In society we don’t usually make the connection in fact we do quite the opposite
The most common pervasive assault on children’s self-esteem is the more subtle erosion of self-worth that goes on every day in most of our homes and in schools. As well-meaning but unaware parents teachers and peers we all chip away at our child’s sense of self in a multitude of little ways, the criticism and disparaging comments or our impatience, the times we hurry out children through tasks they are enjoying to do something we deem more important .It is the way we casually dismiss their interest or curiosity with things vaguely odd or seemingly inappropriate.
I am a Granny to 6 and mother of 3 and hate to own up to having done all of the above! (sometimes find myself still doing it, in spite of the fact that I run parentng skills courses!!)
In individual's self-concept is the core of his personality. It affects every aspect of human behaviour: the ability to learn, the capacity to grow and change. A strong, positive self-image is the best possible preparation for success in life."-- Dr. Joyce Brothers (Psychologist and Author)
