Can early ultrasound dates be wrong?

So when I found out I was pregnant I immediately went for an ultrasound. They did a vaginal ultrasound, and just a sak was seen - they told me I was 4 weeks 6 days. I went for another ultrasound today because according to that, I should be 8 weeks. I have had a miscarriage in the past so was worried. Today, (again a vaginal)there WAS a heartbeat. So I was definately happy about that...however...was told according to measurements that I was only 6 weeks, not 8. Also, the heart beat was faint and she said was 110 beats per min which she thought was low for this time. I am sooo worried. Has anyone else experienced this? Could the first ultrasound telling how far along I was be wrong? Or am I 8 weeks and the baby is not developing?

Would love to hear.... Thanks

All babies and pregnancies are different.

This time around (For me) I seem to have 2 week jumps regarding my weight... I weighed 142.6 for two weeks, then I was at 145.6 for two weeks... (I weigh myself on a hospital scale every Saturday)

So your baby just might have been developing faster, then slower or something like that. Besides, there's no real 'accuracy' when it comes to that, since babies grow so differently (that's how one baby can be 5 lbs and the next be 7 lbs... just depends on momma's diet and fetal development...

Besides, baby could have been sleeping. All our automated functions (breathing, heart rate, pulse, metabolism, etc) slow down when we sleep. 110 isn't THAT far from 120... so chin up and don't stress yourself out. TIme will tell and things will happen as they should, as they always do.

*Positive thoughts sent your way for you and the lil one*
