Can foods be good for you and taste good too??

I was wondering because i'm really trying to lose weight (like 30-40 lbs.) My husband gets a lot of junk food and it DRIVES me crazy, being a stay at home mom. I was wondering if anyone could give me some ideas on foods that taste good and could also help me lose some weight!! Is it possible to find foods that are good for you and also taste good?

You could always do healthy versions of the junk food you love once or twice a week if you cut up your own potatoes and spray them with olive oil and bake them in the oven you get low fat wedges. you could make a healthy home made burger with lots of salad and light mayo and low fat cheese on a wholemeal roll just drain the burger really well before assembling to remove as much fat as possible. and if you do decide to share your husbands junk food get a small serve not the jumbo size he probably gets (if hes anything like mine) and eat it slowly and really enjoy it. good luck.

I personally think that just about any meal can be healthy. It's all a matter of how you cook it and what you combine with it. Like I never eat corn and potatoes in one meal...starch and starch is no good. Everything in moderation is my motto. Exercise and consistent movement is as important as what you eat. Even if all you ever eat is healthy food but you don't exercise at least a few times a week, you will not lose weight. And by exercise I mean simple stuff like taking walks. I live in Florida and during rainy season we don't get outside much for days at a time so I find other things to do. I "over-vaccum" my house lol I know it sounds funny but if you vaccum each room of your house the equivallent of 3 times trust me, you'll feel it. Sex is also a great way to burn calories...just putting that out there lol! If you're trying to lose the weight you need to cut out the junk food until you get to your healthy weight. Once you are at a healthy weight, as long as you maintain a healthy diet and still get your exercise, then you can eat a LITTLE junk now and then. Like I said...everything in moderation.

Yes! First, I would ask your husband to at least help you out and hide the junk food, not eat it around you, or not bring it home. Anything can taste good with seasonings or salt and pepper. Fish is great for Omega 3 and losing weight. Try to cut back on bread. When you do have it, try whole wheat or whole grain. Diet soda is okay. Water is obviously the best. I'm not big on water, but I buy those Crystal Lite drink packets to dump in a bottle of water and it's so tasty! I also agree with Kate about the processed foods. You'd be surprised how much crap is in there! Good luck.

The easiest thing to do is to cut all your processed foods out of your diet. That means anything that comes in a box or a can is probably off limits. You and your husband are actually addicted to the chemicals and preservatives in processed foods. Once you cut those out you will find you have more energy and will lose weight faster. My husband and I each lost at least 15 pounds in a month just by cutting out fast foods and processed foods.

Some other good tricks are to start substitutions. Instead of ground beef use ground chicken, turkey, or bison (buffalo). Add zuchinni to EVERYTHING: it's GREAT for you and has no taste so it's easy to hide. Bell peppers are also really good for your heart and taste good. Use extra sharp cheddar instead of mild or regular cheddar. Because it's got a stronger flavor you'll use less of it than you would regular cheddar cheese. Chocolate is okay! It's actually good for you in the right amounts. Use whole or skim milk in your coffee instead of creamer or half and half. Use whole wheat breads, not white. Use organic pasta sauces or make your own (that way you really know what's in it). If you need more tips or ideas just let me know. It's hard the first week because you're just CRAVING all that processed food because you're addicted to it. Once you get over that it's pretty smooth sailing. It's also a LOT better for the kids! :)

One of my favourites is a salad wrap, i combine the things that taste good together...

for example i love avocado, crated light cheese, or cottage cheese if im in the mood for something creamier..... lettuce, tomato. cucumber, capsicum (green pepper) then as my protien i will mix it up a little and have ham or tuna or grilled chicken with whatever light mayo or sauce and wrap it up..... yummmmy....

My huby is also a junk food freak and it also drives me up the wall..... the best thing about the wraps is that i have kids old enough to make their own.... so i dice everything up and lay out the wraps, its so cute watching the 3 and 4 year olds make their own and try to fold them and pick them up..... i do help them but because they have made them, they are learning what each vegie is and what the different combinations taste like...

also as a snack i make up my own dips... light sour cream and a packet soup mix.. like french oinion soup, mix it together really well and pop it in the coldest part of the fridge for about an hour, cut up some carrot, celery, cucumber with skin on, broccoli trees, slice them into sticks and this makes a great afternoon tea snack....

there is also a book out called 'deceptivly delicious' , there is a chocolate browny recipe with carrot and spinach.... i have to make 2 at a time and hide one .... they love it so much and they can not taste the vegies..... hehehe

My suggestion is to go to the library(do we still have those) or the internet and experiment with some new recipes. I've been surprised by the great ideas I get from the internet. Google healthy recipes and see what you get!
