In 2008 the AAP rescinded all the former food precautions with the exception of anything that could be a choking hazard, due to inadequate support to continue the recommendations! Therefore, you can certainly feed your baby sausage. Mine has been eating it since 9 months, and loves it. Both my kids had spicy foods early, including salsa, sausage, pizza, pickles, and more. Hope he/she enjoys the party. (I'm a board certified pediatric nutrition specialist and registered dietitian BTW..,)

It depends what you mean by sausage? If you mean hot dogs, make sure to cut these into small cubes and not into disks as they can choke. If you mean other sausage, make sure to remove the casing and to crumble the sausage to resemble ground beef, it should be fine. Just make sure the sausages are not to spicy for his little tummy. My daughter was eating mild Italian sausage by the time she was eleven months old.

Quoting Anita:

I woud lay off te sausages until at least 2yrs old unless u make it urself and know exactly what goes into it..They say you cna pretty much feed ur chid what your easting as long as you dont have too much seasoning....

i agree with Anita about not knowing exactly whats in them. I see your Australian (like me) so i can recommend trying to find "preservative free" sasuages called "FAILSAFE" sasuages. I'm in NSW and i am able to get them in Bush's Meats. Very healthy option and very tasty on the BBQ (we love the chicken ones). If you don't have Bush's....ask around at all your local butcher shops.

The reason i only ever give my daughter preservative free sasauges is because i personally think artificial preservatives, colours, flavours etc are no good for children (or us for that matter....lol). you will find all the regular sasuages at the butchers, woolies, coles etc are laden with artificial preservatives, colourings and MSG.

i think addaitive free sasauges are fine for a 1 year old.....have a great party. Congratualtions on mothering your son thru his first year!

I would say it should be fine, my son was eating hotdogs and sausages before he turned 1. As long as they are cut properly. If you just slice them up in little circles there's a bigger chance of the sausage getting stuck in the airway. I slice them down the middle the long way than slice both those peices the same way, than slice them the other way. (hope that makes sence, it does in my head) and keep a close eye. good luck

yes its fine. my daughter has a dietician and she has been recommending sausages since she was around 9 months maybe earlier, you just cut them down the middle so they chew off smaller bits

I did it with my daughter before 1. She thought they were just dandy.

If you think your son is up for it & can chew it down properly then no worries at all, he can have the lot, casing and all.

not 100% sure but once they turn one they can pretty much eat anything with the exception of like nuts and what have you. i would imagine as long as they our not spicy or anything it should be fine
