I took 2 tbsp of castor oil yesterday at 1pm had a good poop at 4 pm but no cramping no vomiting no crazy diarrhea then around 8pm that night mild contractions started they were irregular but def getting more painful then at 4am they stopped. I was wondering if I should try a second dose of the castor oil today nd jus try a stronger dose or just leave it and see what happens??

All good advice! Megan, I wish you a quick and healthy delivery. As a former L&D nurse I can promise you that all castor oil will do for you is make you sicker than you want to be at such a joyous event. Could you coincidentally go into labor after a dose? Sure but it would just be by chance. The other ladies are right, it can cause complications in both you and baby and make for a messier delivery. You really don't want to be vomiting and having diarrhea during labor. I have cared for women in that position and they are usually miserable.
Keep us posted on how things progress and Good Luck!

Why, in this day and age, do women still presume to know better than their physician's, and nature itself?

Castor oil is NOT RECOMMENDED!!!

How far are you, anyway? I went 44 weeks with my first. 42 with my second. Be patient! It will serve you well after baby is born, so it's best to start now.

Baby will be here when baby is good and ready, and unless there is a medical concern, you shouldn't push it

Don't take castor oil. It could actually put the baby in distress AND dehydrate you - two things that make for a labour that can cause problems - it can, in fact, be dangerous for baby. Not to mention, it doesn't actually induce labour - your baby will come when it is ready. Stop trying to force labour if the baby is not ready yet.

Castor oil doesn't put you into labor. It can cause some contractions as you've already experienced, but it won't put you into labor unless your body is ready to go into labor. What it CAN do is cause you to get extremely ill and dehydrated and cause your baby to poop while still inside you... which can potentially cause your child to die....

NO DON'T! I cannot believe people still do this. Your baby will come when he/she is ready. You can try walking, sex, raspberry tea leave, spicy food, and all that other stuff, BUT you will NOT induce labor if your body and baby are not ready. Why can't women just not do dangerous things to themselves to start labor? You have cared for yourself and baby for nearly 40 weeks, but when the time is close, all caution gets thrown out the window.
Good luck lady, but let things happen in due time.

Castor oil can be very dangerous to both you and your baby. You got VERY lucky the first time. I would not be risking the life of my baby just so she/he could come when you want her/him to come. Your baby will come when he/she is ready. Enjoy your time now. Once baby comes your whole life is going to change and there will be days you long for the moments you now have.

You should not be using castor oil to bring on labor. You should be letting things take their course. If a doctor determines you need to be induced let him or her do it. They know how to do this in a safe manner. If you are healthy and have had no issues, keep it that way and let the baby be born the right way.
