Caught son up late on YouTube. HELP

My son is currently 13 and is overall an A student. He attends an academically advanced school. One night I saw a light coming from his room. I went over and saw him half covered in his quilt with his iTouch in his hands and headphones in. I came over and took his iTouch. I looked through his browser history, recently watched, etc. Luckily it was just gaming videos. The worst of it was some swearing. (Phew, no porn!) Those of you with iDevices know about iMessage. I scrolled through his texts and found that some nights he was staying up near midnight texting some of his friends. Luckily it was just about video games and crushes, nothing bad. How should I talk to him about this incident?

I'm with Jodi. I would be taking it all out of his room. There is no need for electronics in bedrooms, it just encourages kids to use them.

If I were you, I would make a decision to lay down some rules surrounding his devices. Set a time of day that he must surrender all devices and leave them in a set location in a public area of the house (for instance, my son must place his on the kitchen bench before going to bed at night). Youtubing, texting friends, etc until midnight is not ok for a growing child. He needs his sleep and he clearly isn't getting it, and this will have a negative impact not only on his brain development, but also on his education in the long term. You need to explain to him the importance of getting enough sleep.
