So my sons dentist said that because one of his cavities is so deep, he needs a silver cap. As a mom, I feel absolutely terrie! Is this normal?

I would be cautious about a dentist "Capping" a tooth. They can STILL get DECAY under the CAP and cause more damage and he could have to have a "Root Canal" or if it gets really bad, like mine did, (after a Root Canal and a CROWN which was $750 bucks out of pocket) I had to have my tooth PULLED!! I got DECAY UNDER the CROWN! MY DENTIST FAILED to WARN me about that! Luckily it is one of my very back teeth! It still bothers me horribly!!

You should get a second opinion! I had HUGE cavities in my molars as a kid, thus the ROOT CANALS and CROWNS now!
Tell him to Brush those teeth! Get his teeth SEALED if you can! I had all of my kids teeth Sealed and NONE of them have any cavities in them! I am so thankful for that!

Good luck!!
