Some women will get their periods back at/around 6 weeks after birth even while exclusively breastfeeding. Some women will not get their periods back until the child is fully weaned from breastfeeding... even if the child is also supplemented w/ formula and eating solids. Many women will fall somewhere in between these two extremes. There is no way of knowing for sure when your friend will get her period back, but it is extremely important to know that you are able to conceive before it comes back... so birth control if sexually active is VERY important if she doesn't want to get pregnant again yet.

When I exclusively BF I did not get my period nor conceive, as soon as my kids started solid and nursing started to decline, everything resumed. Perhaps that is why I had four kids in 7 years!

Tell her to use protection, just because she is not having her period does not mean she cannot get pregnant.
Often times women who are breastfeeding will not get their periods until they stop BFing. Others will start right away. It all depends on her individual hormones. If she is worried, tell her to see her doctor.
