My 8 year old daughter has been going through some anxiety issues. The biggest one right now is rain. She becomes absolutely terrified when clouds move in or there is a shift in the wind. I've been tossing the idea of taking her to counseling but I'm really not sure we're really to that point. Ideas?

It's probably a good idea to have her assessed. This seems like a bit more than anxiety.

Leah I've tried all of that. Books to dancing in the rain. It has been hard. She goes through phases of other anxieties also. For awhile she wouldn't get on elevators....

Perhaps getting her a childrens book about rain...and/or whatever topic is an issue for her at the time.
i used to sit down and 'play therapist' w/mine. Example: 'ok___, now tell me how the rain makes you feel....'' and then respond to whatever she says to dig deeper...and to keep it simple; easy to understand.
It w/go on and on for a little while and then the source w/b revealed eventually.
We w/b closer for it, and she w/b relieved as her feelings w/b validated not made fun of or minimized.
