cool mist humidifier recommendations

Laura - posted on 01/06/2011 ( 6 moms have responded )

I am looking to purchase a cool mist humidifier for my son's room. I want one that is not too noisy. We are currently using the one that my parents had for me when I was a kid.

What do other moms use?

I second the cool mist suggestion. I think we use one that's evaporative. I could be wrong but I think the ultrasonic ones spread more mineral dust if you don't use distilled water.
Check this:
Either way, both should get sanitized every now and then. The evaporative ones might be louder, which could be a benefit if you're looking for white noise.

I suggest an ultrasonic humidifier. We have one in our room and it is great. It makes very little noise and you can choose the amount of moisture output on most of them.

I have had couple Vicks cool mist humidifiers and they were a little noisy. The ones that worked the best are two that i bought from Target. One is in the shape of an elephant and the other a frog. They were made by Crane. There were other animals as well. They work great and you cant hear them at all.

We have one that is the walgreens store brand. It is ultrasonic, completely silent, and doesn't use a filter:)

we've got a vick's, that I picked up at a RiteAid or something, and a Crane that is shaped like a red dragon, got it at Target. both are pretty quiet and you can find the replacement bits pretty easily. I have found that the noise they do make gets my kids to sleep faster after a few days.

We have 2 humidifiers. We run one all winter long. The one that we use is shaped like Winnie the Pooh, but I'm not sure about the brand. I think all of them are pretty quiet now. I would just recommend trying to find one that doesn't require a filter. The first one we bought has a filter, and if you don't run the humidifier constantly, the filter tends to mildew. Some of the filters can get expensive and be hard to find, also. Best of luck....definitely a good investment!
