My 4-year-old once had an ear infection that required a round of a stronger antibiotic. Take him back to the same dr if possible, so the records can follow the child and the insurance is more likely to cover the 2nd antibiotic b/c they'll know the first one failed if it's prescribed by the same dr.

My 9 month old is going through the same thing, turns out he has an upper respiratory infection and an ear infection. The doctor gave him amoxicillin for 10 days, we are on day 6 and it seems to be working. I would take him back to the doctor though if its been a few days and the meds aren't working. Good luck!

Does he have his 2nd year molars? That sounds to me like teeth, because the drugs aren't helping. Plus they come in around that time. Are his poops icky? Try some pain relief see if that helps. If that doesn't get a second opinion!

They may not have prescribed the right antibiotic it might have been something else. Take him to the peds if you can asap. Bacterial infections don't clear up by themselves. I know my daughter has been given a weaker less effectie antibiotic only to go back a week later to get something stronger and that finally clears it up. Very frustrating. Also check for strep.

Take him somewhere else, obviously there is a problem and you need a second opinion!!
