Could I be pregnant?

[deleted account] ( 16 moms have responded )

Since 2002 my period has been on time every month. Except this month. I am 2 days late and have taken a HPT and the results are negative. My breasts are sore and swollen, I am sleepy all the time lately and I just don't feel right. Has anyone else has this before and were you actually pregnant?

2 days is very early to take a test wait til your about a week overdue, then if youstill havent got your period take another hpt. there are other reasons there are other reasons for beong late, stress for example can make you late, and also if you are trying and want to be your mind can trick your body into thinging youare beacause you want to be. also if you dont want to be pregnant and you stress about being late your body will wait longer to have a period....hope this helps :-)

I had the same symptoms almost two decades ago -- I was absolutely certain I was pregnant even though I'd taken a couple home tests that came out negative -- I was floored when my gyn informed me that I had a (NON-CANCEROUS) growth on my pituitary gland that tricked my body into producing prolactin (lactation hormone) -- that made my body think I was pregnant -- therefore no need for periods and the need for lactation (swollen breasts -- I actually produced milk and experienced morning sickness!). Evidently it is a some-what common occurrence ------------ Don't freak out about it, but be prepared for something else that might mimic pregnancy symptoms ---- the only thing I would have done differently is I would have had my hubby come in with me at the doctor -- I was so sure she'd just tell me I was pregnant I went in alone thinking I'd share the good news with him later, then I get all this other news/info and when I told him, he had a billion and one questions that I'd never thought to ask -- if he'd come in with me he could have had clarification right then.

My pituitary tumor was controlled (actually they shrank it) with medication and I was able to have 2 fabulous kiddos. I'm still on medication to control wacked out prolactin levels due to damage done to the pituitary gland by the tumor. But everything was totally treatable -- it was scary at the time because I had to have a bunch of tests done, but looking back I would have liked to have known that other things can cause the symptoms so I could have been prepared for something other than "Congrats you're pregnant!" ---------------------- I debated on whether to post or not, I don't want to scare you to death, but like I said I would have liked knowing back then that not ONLY pregnancy causes the symptoms .... so I decided to share.

Hubby and I had only been "trying" to get pregnant for about a month -- I'd been off my birth control pills for about 3 months ------ doc said the birth control pills actually masked the symptoms by forcing a cycle. Relax and wait for your appointment -- cross the bridge when you get there -- if the tests have given a false negative, you'll have a wonderful baby in a few months, if not your doctor will be able to figure out what's going on and give you better advice than us! LOL

(BTW my children are 18 and 9 and have a fantastic relationship that they wouldn't have had if they were closer in age -- the 18 yr old waited almost 10 years for a little brother and loves him with all his heart. He shared in changing diapers & clothes, fed and bathed his little brother (of course hubby and I did the lion's share, but my oldest enjoyed getting to help once in awhile. The 9 yr old thinks his bubby hung the moon!! Since I was older when I had my youngest, I appreciated the (at that time) 10 yr olds legs who could keep up with my toddler once he learned to walk/run!!! LOL ----------- spacing has perks!!)

Each time I was pregnant, I had negative results with those HPTs and always had to be confirmed with a blood test. I agree with the other comments... while you're waiting for your appointment, take another test in a few days (make sure to use first morning urine. If you find that peeing on a stick is tricky, pee in a paper cup, then dip the tip of the stick in the urine). You didn't mention your age, but if you're over 35, there is a chance that you are peri-menopausal, and that could contribute to your symptoms as well.

If you are stressed it could happen that you are late, also if you just finished antibiotics or if you are an athlete if you just finished a marathon or rough exercise schedule. Or yes you could be pregnant, its bettter to wait 5-7 days then the test will be more accurate. Are you trying for a baby? Maybe you are late because you are anxious.

With my pregnancy with my son the first test said negative then the second test was positive a week later. And then I had my son so probably wait a week take a test and go from there. Then see your doctor.

If you go to the ER, you can get your blood test and results right away if you are in a hurry to know. Pregnancies can all be different. I have four kids, and some I felt pregnant very early on, and the others I did not. Just depends. I don't know how old you are, but if you are pre-menopausal, you could be late or miss periods due to that as well as many other strange hormonal changes...including sore breasts and tired. Just sayin'. It is best to be checked to be sure to know what is going on. I hope if you are wanting to be pregnant that it turns out positive for you. Good Luck.

These are the same symptoms that I had with my 2 sons just before I found out I was pregnant, although with me both HPTs came out positive. Make an appointment to see your GP and ask him for a pregnancy test.

I took 2 home test that were negative (a week apart), so I went to the doctor's for a blood test. I was pregnant. That was 19 years ago, so maybe HPT are better now. But do a blood test and you'll know for sure. And if you aren't pregnant your doctor can begin to find out what is going on.

If you are late but getting a negative HPT, it's not likely that you're pregnant. But, if you still don't get a period in 3 or 4 more days, take another. Or, visit the doctor for a more accurate blood test. Honestly, with both of my pregnancies I didn't feel the least bit pregnant when I took the tests, I only tested because I was trying to get pregnant. My breasts didn't even start hurting until 6 weeks or so. It's pretty rare to really feel any definitive symptoms so early.

Wait a couple of days and redo the test with the first pee of the day! I had false negatives with both my sons until I was nearly 6 weeks gone.

We really have no idea. There are a lot of reason your period could be late and pregnancy is one of them.

HPT can give a false negative though. Maybe try another one in a week with the first pee of the morning, that's when the hormones are at the strongest concentration.

We have all had this dilemma, we have kids hahaha. That's what it was like when I was pregnant with my first.

My magic 8 ball just asked how are we supposed to know if your pregnant.

I plan to, asap. I called today and they cannot get me in for two weeks. That's why I decided to ask on here to see if anyone else has had this dilemma. I have never been late since i was pregnant with my son in 2002, so I am a little bit worried about this. :)
