Dealing with a 6yr old boy feeling neglected by his dad? any advise?

My son feels that if he dies one day his father is not going to care nore cry..He feels like his dad hates him..I never spoke bad about his day, he sees his dad once his in blue..when I drop him off his grandma house..His father never showed him any type of love, No hugg or I love you..How can I tell him that his father loves him even if he don't act like it..I just don't want my son to think I'm lieying cuz everytime I do try to tell him something good about his dad he feels offended.
