Hi rather than bore everyone with the details I will get right to my question. In utah can I give my baby a different last name than mine or my exs. I'm not putting him on the birth certificate and I don't want her to have his last name. But I don't like my last name so I would like to give her a different last name than both of us. Is this possible or against the law.

I think you can give a baby any last name you want. I've seen news stories about parents making up a new last name for their baby by combining some letters in mom's last name and some letters from dad's last name and I've never seen a caveat that you can't do it in certain states.

I cant find any topics online about this whatsoever, but I truly dont believe its possible. You would just have to go with your last name if you arent putting the fathers last name.
