Divorced and need to relocate with my 15 year old daughter

I am divorced for 8 years now and I need to relocate out of current state with my 15 year old daughter. She already has a hard time wanting to visit her dad on his weekends and when she tells him her schedule makes it difficult to see him like clockwork, he demands that she goes. He belittles her and treats her pretty poorly....I am trying to find the best way to get him to agree our relocating.

He is only likely to agree if it doesn't impact on her time with him. If he currently has legal access to his daughter (through custody agreements) every weekend, then you are going to have to make sure he gets close to equivalent time if you move (i.e. if every weekend, he will want around that 100 days a year). I would suspect that anything less than this, he will take issue with and won't agree. You could take it to mediation to discuss it and see where that takes you.

If he won't agree, then you are going to have to consider if you really NEED to move out of state and possibly file in court to get the permission to relocate your daughter. You will have to have evidence that this will be in your daughter's best interests.

Because she is 15, a court would most likely take your daughter's preference into consideration as well.
