Do MMR shots cause autism?

Marissa - posted on 08/30/2015 ( 4 moms have responded )

What is everyone's feelings about the MMR shot? We definitely plan on vaccinating our children, but I'm getting worried. I have heard stories of moms where their baby was doing great developmentally and then after the shot the moms notice a difference with their baby. Blank stares, doesn't laugh anymore, cries more, etc. Please let me know everyone's thoughts. It would be good to get some assurance that our kids will be okay after the shots. I look forward to some responses. Thanks so much!

No. That theory was debunked, and the Doctor who claimed it even admitted it was false. If you break the shot up, your baby will be having MORE vaccinations. It is a 3 way vaccine. You can certainly spread out all the shots so he/she is not getting more than one shot at each appointment to make sure he/she tolerates it well and has no adverse reactions. But, no it does NOT cause autism.

Thank you both! I was doing research before posting that but my mother in law truly thinks it is from the shot and to have them broken up into individual shots. I told her if that was the case then every kid would have autism. Thanks for the reassurance on top of the information I researched. :)

The only study that EVER showed a link between the MMR vaccine and autism was debunked because the guy falsified the data. There are many, many studies that demonstrate there is no link. I agree with Sarah, stop listening to the myths spread by others and start doing your own research.

Instead of listening to what others say I suggest doing your own research and talking to your doc. Get the facts not the myths. There is no link to the MMR vaccine and autism. There have been recent out breaks of both measles and mumps. You also put younger babies at risk when your child does not get the vaccination.
