I do not like the side affects. He has taken intuniv which is non stimulant medication, it makes him sleepy, very emotional and sad. There also does not seem to be any significant changes with his impulsiveness and hyperactivity. He is currently on 18mg of concerta the lowest dose there is. Which works great for all of his symptoms, impulsiveness, hyperactivity, restlessness, and being able to focus. There are terrible side affects, he gets mouth ticks, loss of appetite and when he comes off of it in the evning he is very emotional and argues with me over everything. This is not like him. The DR.'s suggestion is to give him more medicine. I am so sick to my stomach to be giving my 8 year old son an amphetamine based narcotic. I have read alot about using diet and vitamin supplements but have not heard anybody say it actually works. I am just looking for some other alternatives.

Is there a particular reason why you don't want him on prescription medicine?
