I just had one put in yesterday and im cramping. not terribly and i know its normal but im wondering if anyone else has had one and can give me comments on what you thought of it and long term effects on you. when i look it up all i get is people who had negative side effects. Does anyone like it?

I have had one since February...I have a little pain with mine but the doctor said it will get better. The female hormone in it has helped me so much with my mood swings. I have had every anti-depressant in the world and this thing has cleared it all up. I will deal with the small amount of pain in order to be mentally happy!!!!!! Good Luck :)

Im at the end of my 5 years will have to have mine changed out soon. I love it. I used to pms really bad, that all went away. Same with my period, I haven't had that since the beggining. Took about 7 months before mine started to dissappear. And I just got one for the first time a couple of months ago that was weird having one after that long. I'm going to get another. Don't look forward to the change out. Mine was painful on insertion but didn't have any cramps afterwards. I used to also suffer from minor IBS before too, and that all but dissappeared. Another reason I'm going back to it.

I'm going on 4 years with mine and simply love the fact that I do not have to think about birth control. I had cramping but that was normal. Now, I don't get a period at all! When it's time for a new one I'll be first in line!!

I LOVE mine. I had it fitted, had a few craps for a couple hours, and that was it. I was breastfeeding and hadn't started my period yet when I got it, so I don't know how long it would have taken to stop my periods normally, but I've had it for 18 months now and once a month I get like, one spot lol. I've had no weight gain, no roller coaster emotions, nothing. I will definitely be getting it again when my 5 years is up. Hubby will be fixed by then, but I am quite enjoying no periods lol.

I had mine put In because of polyp's.
I had an ablation and they put this is as extra protection against periods as I am severely anemic. I have never had a period since .
My hubby for snipped a few years back so that is not a concern.
I have felt bloated since day one and put on at least 20 pounds in one year!
Most days I feel gross as I bloat the second I eat my breakfast. My dr tells me it's not the IUD??
I have found so many post with this shade effect that I am considering having it taken out.
My biggest thing.. Kind of silly is that I payed over $300 for this thing!! Hate to throw it out and start having problems again because I can't deal with an Extra 20 pounds

I've had mine for a little over a year now and I love it. Nothing to remember, nothing to worry about, and my periods have been lighter (not gone, but lighter).

I do have negatives though. Even though I am eating healthier, exercising more and staying active, I am unable to loose weight. My doctor said that it is most likely because of the IUD (though I am unsure how it affects that).

I am going to get mine out by the end of the year because I have FINALLY convinced hubby to get "the big snip," but I would happily leave it in if he had stayed stubborn on that point. Even with the lack of weight loss, it's still nice to not have to worry about taking a pill every day (plus I got pregnant 3 times while on the pill - and yes, while taking it 100% corectly). The positives of the Mirena IUD far outweigh the negatives in my opinion :)

I have had an IUD for 14 years, and it has been great for me. The cramping right after isn't fun, and your first few periods may be heavier, but that usually settles down. I got pregnant on the pill from not taking it consistently, but I can't mess up the IUD! It was also good when I was breastfeeding because I didn't have to worry about it messing with my milk supply or giving a bunch of extra hormones to my baby. One thing I didn't expect with going to my natural cycle was that my libido also cycled! My husband noticed that there were a few days each month where I was most interested in/receptive to sex. He learned to "eat while the kitchen is open!" hahaha

Edit: Okay, I obviously don't have the same kind as what you are trying. I tried Noroplant once, which is the implanted hormone birth control, and it was a nightmare for me, with constant spotting and terrible moods. I hope this hormone plus IUD works well for you, but if it doesn't you could always try a regular IUD. I am a big fan of mine.

I must admit that at a gut level (no pun intended!) I am suspicious of any pharmaceutical that keeps a woman from having her normal monthly cycle, but maybe I am just being paranoid.

I wish you good luck and good health.

I have had an IUD on and off between pregnancies but it was the copper one without hormones. I had no spotting and no cramping and periods were normal. I really liked it and plan to get another after our new baby arrives.

I' ve had mine now for 6yrs and have had no problems. They say eventually you don't have periods anymore but I still have mine, but they are very light and dont last long at all. Cramping is normal after the initial insertion, I got my new one last year and had cramps for a couple of days, but they went away. Just take something for them. You will like it, for me its better then remembering to take the pill daily. I haven't had any side effects from it. Good luck to you.

I love mine! This is the second time I've had it. After I had it removed the first time I was pregnant within 3 months. The first couple months were the worst constantly spotting but I my period has virtually disappeared.
