No. The sugar and empty calories counteract any good it can do. Furthermore, stimulants are not always the best medicine for ADHD, they only work in some cases.

You can ask your doctor about over-the-counter caffeine capsules to treat ADHD once it is decided that your child may benefit from stimulants. I have heard of a doctor recommending it, but usually they will choose a prescription so that they can control and adjust the dosage as needed.

Mountain Dew has a lot of caffeine in it. Caffeine is a stimulant so it can serve a similar purpose to the other stimulant drugs for ADHD, such as Ritalin or Adderall. We have been known to use it as an emergency medication when for some reason my son cannot take his Metadate.

However, bear in mind that the high sugar content can counteract the good effects of the caffeine, that Mountain Dew, like sodas in general, has no nutritional value at all, and is acidic and thus bad for teeth. Also, you don't generally have a specific dose of Mountain Dew so that you get enough caffeine but not too much.

If you need medication for ADHD or ADD, it is better to go to a knowledgeable doctor and get a prescription at the correct dosage to treat your ADHD without making you even more hyper.
