ear infection?

[deleted account] ( 8 moms have responded )

My 5 month old has slept thru the night since he was 10 weeks old. He is the type of baby you can lay down while awake and he will go to sleep without any fuss. For the past three days he has fought every nap and bedtime it seems to be getting harder to put him to bed each day. Is this a new phase he is starting or is it likely he has an ear infection? I feel so bad for him he seems fine in the morning and gets fussier towards the evening.

If he is trying to chew on his hands and drooling more then he is probably teething. Teething tablets work WONDERS for my daughter. Orajel helps for a few mins but then it is like I never put any in her mouth. If he has an ear infection he would be pulling at his ear. Or this could be a sign that he is about to cross a major milestone. All of the books I have read said that it seems as though your child takes a few steps backward before he crosses a new road.

the only certain way to know of ear infection is to get the check up, but it is most likely just a stage. i know from experience my daughter was a perfect sleeper, then in growth spurts she would wake in the middle of the night. also, my daughter is almost two and we never knew when she had an ear infection, its always been when something else comes up, like this cough she just got, we took her to the doctor and come to find out she had an ear infection again. this is her third shes had and we didnt even know she had them. so from my experience and what i think, it depends. and if you might think your baby has an ear infection, go to the doctor and get him checked out. hope it helps a little! =]

my son has done that same exact that but and is the same age he is in the process of teething. what i would strongly recamend is take him to see the docter to check to see if he has a infection if they say no then its time to bye teething toys. a good why they told me to tell is if he is constantly wanting to chew on things more than what they normaly do

take him to be looked at by the doc. and be sure they use the air test to check for fluid.

not all babies have the classic symptoms.niether of my kids did.

good luck

we thought teething first but i've noticed today and yesterday he has been playing with his ear same one each time. I know he may have just discovered them but it seems very coincidental.

if no ear infection... anyone have tips to get him sleeping again?

Hi Ashley,

Yes for both questions. It could be either or. I would even say that he might be teething and having ear pain with it. One thing I would suggest is for you to get some baby vicks and rub it behind his little ears. It helps with the pain. I know it sounds weird, but it helps. I hope that things get better for you and your little one soon.

He could have an ear infection or he could also be teething. Is he running a temp? A temp. could indicate infection, but they can also run a low grade temp with teething.
