Ear tubes

My 21 mo is having tubes put in on Wednesday. He has significant hearing loss in one ear, plus has retracted ear drums. I'm not worried about the tubes but more about the anesthetic. Any momsuggestions with words of wisdom or suggestions on how to deal with this?
