My nearly 5 year old son has to get eye drops (3 times a day) for about a week for conjunctivitis... any suggestions on this? We have a few attempts in, but of course he dreads it and pinches his eyes closed so tight that in spite of my best efforts, I'm not so sure enough medicine is getting in. He's so worked up about it he can't hold his eye open or blink when I ask him to, to try to work the medicine in...he cries and has a dramatic fit about it, before and after. I do give him M&M's afterwards, which is probably the only reason he sits for me at all to even try it! Any other good suggestions? Will only a teeny amount of medicine help anyway??? I have explained the purpose of the medicine and why its important to do it...and he gets that, but his fear of it runs so high its hard for him to just calmly go with it. Its sooo frustrating! Its going to be a loooooong week.

Squirt the drops on the side of his nose so they run into the corner of the eye. I've found this is less traumatic for kids than watching that big dropper coming straight for their eyeball. The doctor always told me if 1-2 drops got in, we were in pretty good shape.
