My husband and I have 2 ferrets...and a 6 week old as well...I know they shouldn't be around eachother...but I'd still like to know what others think of the situation.

I do not see anything wrong with having ferrets with babies. I used to own a ferret and my friends children always played with her. Now, if your ferrets have bad habits like biting then I would simply keep an eye on them when they play with your darling.
Pets are part of the family, and keeping them excluded could cause resentment.

Depends on the ferrets as with all animals. My in-laws have 6 of them currently. None of them are caged either. There is only one that needs to be locked in a bedroom when we're their with our kids. They've had him since he was small but he's still a biter. When ferrets bite to they lock on and it's hard to get them to let go sometimes. This particular ferret they've tried everything to correct it's behavior. Their now in the process of getting the vet to pull the two front spiked teeth. The other 5 ferrets they have are perfectly fine. They don't scratch or nibble because they took to the training they received to not do this. Our kids are perfectly find around them. They cart them around, get kisses from them, even our 20 month old does. You know your ferrets best so use your own judgment. =)

I'm a retail pet store manager and also a mother of 3. The only reason why the ferrets and baby don't go well together is that the ferrets are often too playful. They will scratch or maybe even nibble. There are no diseases or anything medical to worry about. Ferrets are hardly ever an allergen. I wouldn't stress too much, just enjoy your growing family :)
