First Time Pregnant :) - Little help? :S

Hi everyone :-) ,

i'm pregnant with my first child and although i am very excited I just keep reading more and more information online and it's getting to be a little overwhelming... There's so much i had no idea about... (e.g... i read about Listeria yesterday and realised i've been eating the wrong types of cheese for a couple of weeks :( Im pretty sure i wasn't told by my doctor which is a little worrying if im honest.

I figure the best thing for me would be to speak to someone who knows what they're talking about face to face and so i've been looking for advice groups or events online. Has anyone been to any pregnancy events that they found useful? I heard about PregSense from a friend - has anyone else been there? Would be great to know.

Also there a loads of forums and websites out there. Are there any which you have found particularly useful?

Thanks for your time and help.. its much appreciated!

The best thing to do is not stress. Yes you will be inundated by "advice" but not all of it is useful or good. As long as you are eating healthy and doing light exercise then you will be fine. Listeria is a bacteria found in soft cheeses and cold meats and doesn't usually affect us but it can harm an unborn baby. Yes it's best to steer clear of those foods but admittedly, I craved ham when I was pregnant and occasionally gave in to those cravings.
Just remember, women have been having babies for hundreds of years, yes science has helped and the infant mortality rate has dropped but as long as you aren't being stupid your baby will be fine.

Hi Michelle,

sorry for the late reply.. been very busy with work the last week.

So I went to the seminar (PregSense) and it was really helpful. There was a doctor on hand to answer my fears and questions and I found out about cord blood banking which was really interesting too! Was a little surprised that I hadn't heard about it before but it's definitely something my partner and I will be doing!! :)

Have you heard about this before? Any advice you can give me on it? Sorry if i'm being a pain asking all these questions but it's great to have the opinion of other mums and mums-to -be!

Thanks in advance

Thanks Michelle,

I am quite active in general and so exercise is probably the one thing i'm not too worried about but yes, i agree that there is a lot of "advice" which is more of a scare tactic for companies than real useful facts.

Very glad to have wonderful women like yourself around to help and advise me :)
I've booked myself onto a free pregnancy seminar tomorrow and will see how that goes. Hopefully its not too busy and I can speak with the doctor who will be there..

i'll let you know how i get on :)

Thanks again, your support means a lot!
