take from a mom/grandmother of small babies, bananas will work wonders. Just mash up with a fork and add to anything. Very high in nutrients and usually sits very well. Jacob, my grandson was born with 3 congenital heart defects and had open heart surgery at 6 months, so I could practically write a book on this. His weight is always a fight for us (& he's 4 now) since his heart has to work so hard. Banana's travel well, sit well, and work well. Try one. You might be pleasantly surprised.

What is he eating now? You could try just increasing what he's getting at each sitting or just give him an additional snack. I breastfed mine and with the second, a 3% kid too, they had me supplement with formula. Instead of giving him a bottle, I would mix a scoop in with his cereal or fruit/veg. That brought him up a little, but he's just so active that he's never really shifted much off that line. We also introduced butter, cheeses, and yogurt to him early, but really watch for adverse reactions. If there is a concern for cow dairy, you can find goat and sheep's milk products.

An excellent resource would be to meet with a dietician if you can. I hope this helps a little. You know your son, if he's doing what he should he may just be small. And, that's okay, especially if you are giving him healthy options. I would far rather have a super busy, active small baby than the alternative.

My sister was told the samething and she hads some UNSALTED butter to her daughters veggies. But don't worry too much, some children are just tiny, as long as he's hitting milestones and responsive and is sleeping and eating and has his normal awake periods. My sister when she was little was told she would menstrate till she was 18 years old (actually she was 16) and never reach 5ft (she is 5.5ft). She was sooo tiny, but it hasn't affected her and she doesn't have any weight issues. Potatos are also high in starch. Best of luck, hope I was some help

Is he following his growth curve? Which percentile is his height?

Sometimes I think doctors stress parents out over nothing. Not all kids can sit in the middle of the curve. If you have a big baby they are on your case. If you have a small baby, they are on your case.

Do what seems right to you.

make sure you're giving him the 3.25% milk, obviously keep giving him the right amount of meat and fruits and veggies, but if he can eat pieces of veggies, u could melt a little butter on it?? or make your oatmeal with milk or even put some cream in it... eggs are great but he shouldn't have the whites until 12 months... be careful with the fattening up of stuff cuz he'll get used to it and won't want to eat things plain again lol. maybe he'll just always be naturally skinny!! Good luck :)
