Getting Frustrated wIth Getting No Milk when Pumping

My baby is six weeks old and I very adamant about wanting to breast feed him and I have from the beginning. He eats with no problem, I know this because every time we visit the Dr. he is gaining weight, but I am not getting any thing one I pump. Some days I will have a good day and be able to get almost 3 oz. Other days I pump and I am lucky if I get 0.5 oz . I am getting frustrated, I don't want to give up, but I am going to be returning to work soon and want him to have breast milk and not formula. It is driving me crazy that I cannot produce what I want for him. I am taking fenugreek to keep my supply up and have the mother's milk tea as well. If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it. I am using a double electric pump, and i know there is milk in the there, and I just want it come out!

Don't worry and don't give up - this is normal!! Right now, your baby has established a very good pattern of breastfeeding and your body has figured out how much he needs. So your body is only making what he needs - no more, no less. When you pump while still breastfeeding full time, you're basically asking your body to make "extra" milk. It takes time for your body to get the message and respond the way you want. I started pumping about 2 weeks before I went back to work and only got about 0.5oz from each side each time I pumped. I was in serious panic mode and ended up in tears after every pumping session! My sister reassured me that once I returned to work and my baby had missed a feeding, I would pump enough - and she was right! It took me the whole 2 weeks before I went back to work to pump enough milk to get him through the first day at daycare. It took me my first day back at work to pump enough to get him through day 2. Try to relax and hang in there!! Pumping gets better and easier with practice and once you are pumping the feedings your son is missing instead of asking for extra milk, you'll be right on track. My son is 10.5 months and I'm still breastfeeding and pumping at work.
