Glucose Test

I cannot find Brach's Jellybeans for my glucose test in the stores and forget buying them online. I would really not have to take that yucky drink. I have a friend that was allowed to do either coke and M&M's or Hi-C and Peanut Butter Cups, but she doesn't remember ounces or quantities. Has anyone else heard of this and know how much to take? Thanks!

The drink they give you at the doctors "glucola" is toxic and should be avoided. It actually has a flame retardant in it that can harm your kidneys. Brach's jelly beans are an accepted substitute, but so is anything that will equal 50 grams of sugar. Instead of the 18 jelly beans you could try 2 York mint patties or talk to your doctor to see what they recommend.

The drink is not to horrible if its cold and you drink it quickly. I'm sure the doctor will insist on the drink because they want a certain quantity of sugar in your system. The least amount of variables during testing will give you a more accurate result. You dont want to be misdiagnosed with gestational diabetes because you had an inaccurate test.

never heard of a substitute, and I had the orange. Was just like super sweet orange pop.

other than super sweet I didn't think the drink was that bad. It reminded me of the syrup from McDonalds orange juice that you used to get, mixed with orange crush.... BUT I've never heard of any substitute as far as I know here you don't get another choice. But call the lab that you are going to they'd be able to tell you.

I had this test done and I had to drink Lucozade. I drank Lucozade orange which is just a bit sweeter than ordinary orange pop. I had to drink 3/4 of a small bottle. Really it is not that bad and is not that much liquid.

Talk to your dr. I had to have it with both pregnancies, and I requested the lemon-lime (I can't stand Coke) or the orange. They weren't something I'd run out to buy, but they weren't the worst thing.

I haven't heard this so I would ask my doctor. Quite honestly, the drink didn't taste that bad. It was bearable and reminded me of Hi-C fruit punch.

please check with your dr. he will be able to tell you of any substitution there is and the amounts. my dr instisted on the drink, and while i did not like it the test was important and it was a small sacrifice. good luck and God bless
