Well, with my first, I was 4 days late but dilated for three weeks 3 cm. So you can imagine my grouchiness when I was 38 weeks with my second and not dilated at all. However, one day later (after I was checked at 38 weeks 3 days) and nothing doing), sure enough I go into labor, have half the labor time as I did before (14 hrs to 6 1/2 hrs) and had a fairly easy delivery (you know, sort of). The night before I happened to be very angry and took a 2 mile power walk with my 30lb 1 year old in a jogger on a trail nearby- i credit that to my going into labor- i mean, I was practically run-waddling, if you can picture that, lol.

I highly reccomend prenatal yoga, if you're into that- the hippie dippie stuff wasn't really my thing but the stretching made me feel SO much better. The last few weeks of both pregnancies (and during labor) I spend the whole time on an exercise/birth ball.

Good luck super mom! And it's true, only 38 weeks, try to wait a little more, but I know the end is the worst.

I went for a scan with my son at 35 weeks. Still had another month to go and wasn't dilating at all, everything was still firmly closed. I had him 2 days later.

Same with my daughter although she was full term.

As far as I know it isn't odd to not be dilated at 38 weeks. With my oldest I was 3 cms for a month before I had him at 38 weeks and one day. With my youngest I went into labour at 35 weeks. I had been checked a few days earlier and wasn't dilated at all. I was uncomfortable over night, started having mild contractions at about 7 am, ended up at the hospital at 10 thinking I had a bladder infection and was found to be 6 cms. Myles was born an hour and a half later. Don't worry about it, your body will do what it's meant to, good luck!
