my 7 year old just hates writing and is always the last to get done at school, he can spell no problem if you ask him to but if you ask him to write he forgets how words are spelt and just sort of loses the plot.. any suggestions on how to make writing fun?

My son also hates to write. He is now in 9th grade. It was much worse when he was younger though.

Would his teacher be opposed to him dictating the story to you and then you writing it down on the paper? I did this with my son and wow, what an imagination. Then, maybe after a couple of times of doing this, have you write a paragraph and he writes a paragraph.

With my son writing was a source of frustration. He would get frustrated and it would get to a point where he just couldn't concentrate and he would shut down.

The story is there in his mind, but I think that they feel like it takes so long to write it and the thought of doing the whole paper overhwhelmed him and he became very frustrated.

Another thing he liked was setting a timer for like 10 minutes. He would actually set the timer. I think maybe it made him feel like there was an "end" to the writing project.

I hope some of this is helpful?

Hi Nikki :) I'm curious, what as the teacher said about him not writing, is it that he really gets confused by writing down words on paper or is stubborn and doesn't want to? Sorry stubborn mightbe the wrong word, but I hope you know what I mean
