Help! First Birthday Issues!

I thank you in advance for any advice you can offer. My father who resides in Chicago and has yet to meet my child has purchased me a plane ticket to fly up for Easter. My son's first birthday is the day before Easter and I would like to throw a party for him. I have a lot friends and family who live in the area which would allow them to meet my son for the first time. Here is where the problem comes in. My parents divorced many years ago and my father never remained in touch with my cousins/his nephews. I would like to invite them as well as my god parents and friends that attended my baby shower. I do not think that he will be comfortable with this. I have a friend who offered her home which would be a great place to have a party and would keep everyone on neutral ground but I feel my father may be offended. I will only be in town for 1 week or I would consider 2 parties. Is it wrong of me to want to share in this day with everyone. Please Help. Thank you.

You would be amazed what grandparents will do for their grandbabies. My parents refused to talk my whole childhood and were mean and hateful....they can now be in the same house and the SAME room for their grandkids parties and events. Just talk to your dad, he may surprise you.

I wouldn't throw 3 parties. For the sake of your son, they should be able to get along. It's only one day.

I would talk to your dad. He may totally understand that you want to share this special day with everyone, but you won't know until you ask.
