with this being childhood cancer awareness month I have read a lot of articles that says bologna and hot dogs have been shown to cause cancer. I'm really worried. my husband says we should just tell him he will eat what we do or he goes hungry. any mommies have any suggestions he is almost 7 years old.

I agree with Dove. At 7 he should have a well balance and varied diet. Do not buy anymore hot dogs or bologna, but do offer him a choice of food he enjoys and add a few healthier options on the side. Start with breaded chicken patties on whole wheat buns, put lettuce, tomato and cheese out for him to dress up his sandwich. Fruit as a side will go over well, apple w/ PB, orange slices, celery and carrots with ranch. Over time you can keep slowly shifting his diet to healthier choices. Just don't give in, even the healthiest turkey dog is still loaded with sodium, nitrates, and fat. Including him in the cooking and meal planning may help too. When a child has a sense of ownership and control, they are more invested in seeing the project succeed.

Stop buying bologna and hot dogs... Are there ANY other foods that he eats? Or is it just bologna and hot dogs for every meal, every day? I would not do the 'he eats what we eat or doesn't eat' approach, but unless he has a mental/emotional disorder that you haven't mentioned... there should be some other foods that he will eat as well. Not sure how else a kid gets to be 7 and only eating two things...

Anything healthy that he will eat... work w/ that and build from there.
