help with budget recipes

Hi between my partner and i we have 5 children aged 15 1/2 yrs, 13 yrs, 8 1.2 yrs 19 months and 6 months.

I am trying to cut back on my shopping bill as it is through the roof. Does anyone have quick cheap recipes that can feed large eaters. I have 2 babies in nappies and on formula as they are both lactose intolerant and dairy protien intolerant. And I have to pay for private therapy for my youngest 3 so money is tight.

I would really appreciate some reicipies for dinner, dessert and snacks and any advice you can give me on cutting the shopping bill and household bills.

i know how you feel, luckily for me i guess i own a farm and have enough land to have a small veggie patch but you can have tubson a balcony to produce your own fruits and veggies. I also slaughtered a cow nearly two years ago and am now using up all the less favourite cuts of meat. Over the summer with only nappies,cleaning products and toiletries to buy my shopping bill was halved. My staple stand by is ofcourse what we english call shepherds pie.

Lightly fry minced beef,onions and garlic if you like, add small cubes of vegtables and add either a can of tomatoes or gravy put it all in an oven proof dish and top with mashed potato, to change every now and then i add mustard or a litlle chees to the mashed potato. Put in the oven until the potato is browned and the the meat is hot

Hi! I know what you mean, although i only have one child, I am also trying to cut back the grocery bill. We used to buy granola/musli bars, cookies and things like that for lunches but I have found that cutting those out and making muffins or scones has really cut down the cost of our grocerys.

Also cutting out cereal for breakfast, instead, having oatmeal/porridge or toast. To mix the oatmeal up I put different things in it like grated apple and cinnamon, or yoghurt.

One of my sons favourite muffin recipes is for "fruity vegetable muffins" (you can not taste the vegetables) is:

1 cup self raising flour

1 cup wholemeal self raising flour

2 teaspoons cinnamon

2/3 cup castor sugar

1/2 cup dried mixed fruit or raisins

1 large carrot, grated

1 medium zucchini, grated

1/2 cup sunflower oil

3 eggs

Pre heat oven to 180 degrees celcius (350 degrees F)

Grease muffin tin

Mix flour and cinnamon in bowl

Add sugar and stir in dried fruit

In another bowl beat together carrot, zucchini, oil and eggs.

Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir until JUST blended

Divide mixture into muffin tin

Bake 20-25 minutes
