I too "ballooned" up with both of my pregnancies....I would first suggest DO NOT finish your children s' food! I know this sounds crazy but; as new mothers we have a habitat of "not wasting" and taking the last bite of their hamburger or chicken nugget, etc...This is a terrilble habit! Secondly...do not; NOT eat! The best thing to do for ourselves is lower the portion amount & eat at least 5 times a day. Third; if you do not have "Healthy Snacks" within an arms' reach...you'll eat whatever is around...usually the worst stuff. Like donuts, candy, etc.. I have a "snack basket" in the car with anything decent to eat inside of it...fruit leathers, nuts, raisins, granola bars, and fresh fruit. (This should be eaten right away) it doesn't travel well for very long! Even though I take a lot of slack for the "Snack Basket" it's worth it & I save oodles' of moola no longer stopping at the 7 - 11 for a $2 fruit snack.

I know your feeling except I'm pregnant with baby number 2 and was in the long process of losing weight when I found out I was pregnant again. My best advice is to eat healthy and exercise. What was working for me before I got pregnant is not having any junk food in the house at all and during the day I would keep fruits and vegetables out on the counter. When I would bring them home from the groccery store I would wash and cut them up. I know when I get into a snacky mood I want something quick. I'm a big snacker too. lol I also drank water all day long and would have milk with meals but I wouldn't drink anything else besides those. Another thing that helped was cutting out sugar other than the natural sugars that you get from fresh fruits. Stay away from pop and juice. And the exercising part. I know it's hard with kids but get a stroller and go for a walk. I would go for a walk right before my sons nap time and by the time I got back from our walk he was so relaxed and went down for a nap really easily. While he napped I would watch my favorite shows and exercise the entire time. You don't need any fancy equipment or work out videos or even diet pills for it to work. It might seem like it's taking a long time for the weight to come off but it's actually better for you. Slow and steady wins the race! You will have more energy and feel so much better. Your kids will have trouble keeping up with you! :)

Take them for walks. While they are napping... use that time to exercise! Crunches, leg lifts, etc. Run the stairs if you have to!!!! Diet also has helped me tremendously!!!!

Don't do the cleanse thing. You're basically starving your body and when you do start eating again, you gain the weight back and then some. Ever notice how Gwenyth Paltrow is always doing cleanses? If they worked, she wouldn't have to keep doing them. Diet and exercise. Cut out or cut back on sweets and read labels to see how many calories you're eating. I was shocked that one little Girl Scout cookie had 75 calories! And some women will eat a whole box. Eating small meals with healthy snacks in between works for me and weight training. If you build lean muscle mass, it boosts your metabolism. You don't have to go to a gym. Just pick up some free weights from Target and a fitness magazine. They always have workouts you can do at home. When my son was little, I took advantage of the daycare at the gym and worked out there. It was a great mental break for me and he was fine. He's now a very social 6 year-old. Taking him to the gym did him no harm. You have to take time for you or your not doing yourself or your kids any favors.

Weight watchers helped me tremedously! i never thought it would work, but i started doing it and lost 8lbs in 2 weeks and kept it off!

Walking is a great way to get in shape, but I know from experience that it is not always possible to get out with your stroller in the winter. When I need to exercise at home, I use the Stott Pilates Walking Pilates series or the Weight Loss series (it combines walking and pilates mat work). Walking pilates is very simple (no confusing routines) and it doesn't require a lot of space to do it. And, most importantly, if you have to pick up your child, you can continue with the cardio portion of the workout. I love it! You can check out the DVDs at www.stottpilates.com and select Merchandise, DVD's & Equipment, and then At Home DVD's. A little exercise combined with healthy eating and moderate portion sizes should really help. Good luck!

If you can swing it, invest in a treadmill. In the long run, it's cheaper than a gym membership, and you can work out while the kids are home or while they nap. You can invite other moms over and have a workout playdate, taking turns with the kids while each of you works out. Then you don't even have to waste valuable naptimes to get a workout in... :)

It is a long, slow process for many of us, myself included. It is so hard not to become discouraged! The only 2 things that work for most people are: healthy, fresh diet and regular excersize. Load up on fruits, veggies, lean protein. Get some form of a workout everyday (some days more than others). I try to remember that NOTHING tastes as good as being thin/healthy feels!

i use diet pills myself but not all people are for that. but try eating a grapefruit everytime you eat a meal. its a natural fat burner. i seen my brother in law go from like a 48 to like a 36 in a matter of just a couple of months... i declare blessings over your life and the lives of your children, don't let depression in.

Put them in a stroller and walk! If its raining and there is a Walmart were you live then walk the "main" aisles (the one that form a square) 4 times to walk a mile, or find out from your community center if they have an indoor track and what it costs to use most are free. If the daddy is willing to watch the babies then look at different exercise programs in the community. Look at your local swimming pool to see if there are any water exercise programs available in your area or if they have an exercise/weight room that is available for use, look at your local community center for jazzercise programs or other exercise programs, some churches have programs to help their members lose weight. All or most of these are fairly inexpensive and all will not only help you to meet your weight loss goals but they will also get you out and give you some "mommy only" time.

chicken is healthy for you but they some times trick your body to not realize when your full. theres web pages that tell you the foods that tend to do that. also watch how big your salads are because people getting ready for eating contest eat salad to stretch out their stomach not shrink it. so do not eat big salads because it will in the end cause you eat more when you eat other meals. watch the carbs, like a tortilla they have more carbs then bread from a sandwich. so just because it sounds healthy does not mean it always is. only way a tortilla is healthier then a sandwich is when its a corn tortilla. hope my tips are useful

hi....my name is julia..i have 2 kids as well and both are under the age of 3.... when i wanted to lost weight i completely change my eating habit meaning i only ate salads lots of chicken nothing fried lots of veggies just a cup of fruit a day no more than that because even through its healthy but it has lots of natural sugar and thats not going to help you lose weigh. Eat red potato's not the brown ones baked or boiled brown rice but only a cup a day, also oatmeal, fat free milk, drink lots of water only a half of cup of juice a day no more than that keep away from the soda and coffee. Its pretty hard to keep up with the diet especially with the kids and at the end its worth it. Keep yourself moving what i did was play with my kids and worked out with them they found it very exciting like running in place doing step ups with a chair, jumping jack and whatever you can think of. I kept it up for over 8 months and i lost over 40 pounds its pretty hard but i think you can do it if you put your heart to it. Also i heard the colon cleanse is pretty good but i didn't know till this year about it but i heard its pretty good eatting healthy and working out everyday for 30 minutes to 1 hour its a boost to helping a person to lose weigh. good luck and i wish you the best.

I have already decided to do this diet. http://www.thedukandiet.org/ I'v seen it working and I believe it will work with me too. It's a regime not a diet. Eating proteins and veges as much as you want . Outdoor activities with the two kids will help heaps too. So good luck . I bet you will be back to normal as soon as. Just have to teach your body to eat quality food !!! Thats the most important thing - GOOD HABITS :-)

i suggest weight watchers. i've been on it since i had my son and have lost 69lbs. he just turned 1 this february.it's the easiest way to lose weight in my opinion. you don't have to change what you eat really, just how much you eat of it! so you don't really feel deprived of food or like you're really on a diet. it REALLY is a life style change. once you're on it for a month, it's already changed your way of thinking about food!

I forgot the most important thing is drinking water, water, water. my friend went on the rotate diet from back in the old days. She has 8 children . She has lost 75 plus pounds, her weight was in the stomach area and she is looking really good. She is 30 lbs from goal. She did this by watching what she ate(counting calories) and exercising , we both have joined 24 hr. fitness. They have a daycare there, do check into this. Good luck

Hi there-I have 5 kids and have been overweight for 15 years. I finally started with a weight loss program called Take Shape for Life. I lost 60 pounds in 4 1/2 months. It has been the easiest thing I've ever done, and I have done it all. You can check out the info. at www.poundbegone4ever.tsfl.com. You only pay for the meal replacements, and you get a personal health coach who works with you over the phone. You also get to eat one of your own meals every day, so I eat dinner with my family. Let me know what you think.

Try the South Beach diet. The whole point of South Beach is to lose weight while still feeding your body healthy food. It really works and you never go hungry or feel deprived. I feed my whole family that way. We eat lots of veggies and only whole grains. Also, I never drink soda, just water, milk and coffee. I feel better about myself and what I feed my family. Whole grains are everywhere now too. Even Kraft macaroni and cheese is offering a 50% whole grain version which my kids love.

Walk, walk , walk, i know what you are going through, i had four children, was never heavy before, now 52 yrs. old, just had lap band, don't let this happen to you, start walking with the kids, all over the place, with them in strollers, you can power walk everywhere, and though i was never good at it, water, water, water, soooooo i use crstyal light, raspberry ice, though albertson's has a generic, much cheaper, just as delicious, get out there. jodi

I do not have experience in having to lose weight after preg, i'm only 7 mts with my first, however, i have helped people lose weight and achieve fitness goals, it is a passion of mine. remember that mom's are always told to take care of themselves, and being somewhat fit and not depressed is important especially when raising kiddos. join a gym that has a child care, find a few different group fitness classes, definitely find one that involved weights, and then find a cardio class that you can love. Do weights, 2x a wk, and cardio 2-3x/wk. if you have to choose between the two, choose the weights, trust me, it won't make you bulky. for cardio, play with the kids, take them for walks, be creative. and, most importantly, don't judge your health/fitness level by the number on the scale. go by how clothes fit you, how you look and most importantly how you feel! good luck, i hope you find what works for you.. (I'm a fitness instructor, so i'm not talkin out my nose!!l lol!!!)

I agree with all others with the walks, also park further out anywhere you go. Bring the laundry in your arms, makes for extra trips. Drink plenty of water, vitamins do work (liquid) your body absorbs them better & make sure they have minerals. Drink anti-oxidants like acai. Fruits, veggies, dark leafy green salads. Even getting more sleep & don't forget sex it's exercise & stress relief! Good luck!

Before I started on the Jenny Craig program, I skipped meals in an effort to lose weight. That only made me hungry and grouchy. When I started JC, I learned the importance of eating 3 meals AND 3 snacks every day. And guess what?! You can still drink your coffee. I learned so much about how to lose those 50 pounds through Jenny Craig and I never had to give up my home baked chocolate chip cookies either. I learned that there are no "bad" foods and everything is good to eat as long as it's in moderation!

I had problems with weight loss because of what I ate. Try having fruits and vegetables as snacks instead of eating the crackers and cereals with your kids (like I did). While they need the higher calories, we as adults don't. Also when they are running around and playing if you have the time, join in. This helps you burn off those calories, gives you bonding time with your kids and the exercise really makes you feel better. I hope this was helpful, and good luck!!

watch your carbohydrate and sugar intake. I have to lose 15lbs due to high glucose levels. I am on a low carb and low sugar diet and have not had a lot of time to exercise and have lost 6lbs in two months. I try to exercise as much as I can. I have one child and she is two. She likes to dance, so I get exercise dancing with her and playing outside. Find things you can do with the children. When "Jet" is playing on her slide I do some exercises. Hope this helps. Other option is to talk to a dietitian.

I have struggled for years trying to lose weight. In February I started the Special K diet plan. In the month and 1/2 I have managed to lose 4 pounds. Now that the weather is starting to get better I will add to the diet walking the dog. Since you have children when it is nice out take them for a walk. They will love it and you will get the exercise. Hang in there it does not come off overnight.

I read through a lot of these replies and I think there are some great ideas and tips on here! I started doing ZUMBA back in the fall and lost about 5 lbs. just doing that once per week and "watching" what I ate without going on an actual diet. Zumba is fun and I feel so motivated by the fun music that I have added a day with friends in their home with the DVD's you can buy. I also jump around and do some of the steps randomly at home! LOL My 5 y/o just told me the other day "you look like a crazy mommy doing that"! It cracked me up, especially when she started dancing around imitating me. It is good for your children to see you being active and taking care of your self. You must take care of your self in order to be a good mommy.

Good luck and try to stay positive. :)

I have recently started an exercise and nutrition rehab that has worked wonders for me, it's hard at first but once you get used to it you will be addicted to feeling great. I just got with a person trainer who helps me work on my nutrion issues as well as puts me through a workout. In 2 months I have lost 15 lbs, 10% BFI, and 4 pant sizes, I feel great tomorrow we are measuring and weighing again so who knows I may have lost even more this week. With my busy schedule I though it would be impossible to do this but now I can't see myself not doing it. I realized how important it was to have time for myself and to take care of myself so that I could have the energy to take care of everybody else.

i did alot of walking, cut back on portions on my plate, did away with condiments such as mayonaise, and ate simple foods for on the go moms. I enjoyed yogurt- but they have alot of sugar. My grocery items I checked for high salty foods, no fructose corn syrup......OF Course!! and lower sugars!!. Needless to say i bought one of those glider type machines because in winter I cannot go to walk much so it really helped! Since then things have changed it's been 8 yrs. I gave up the glider to make room for lots of things, got my first pc, and stopped walking. I injured my leg. And a few other things.......loss of job, Im a single parent- needless to say I have put back on the weight. I would love to start over again with the same remedy. Although I believe excercise is the key, and a healthy diet. Your children are so young, with all the running around the weight will come off!! But eat healthy, excercise and enjoy the process of sizing down. Have that special treat once in a while. Good luck!!

I am currently doing nutrisystem. Its not for everybody because it costs $300 a month before you add in the fresh groceries, but it works. I love the food (although I am on the vegitarian program and I've heard the basic plan isn't as good) and since January 1st I've lost over 20 pounds. Plus they send you these cute little bears when you reach certain weight loss milestones. It was the only thing that made sense for me because sometimes I am just too busy chasing after my little one to take the time to make a healthy meal. I probably would have lost even more if I had time to work out everyday like I should. And don't listen to that colon cleanse thing. It is NOT safe to lose more than 1 or 2 pounds a week and to starve yourself like that, if it even really works. And if you did manage to lose the weight you would rebound and gain it back.
