I had been bitten by a mosquito which quickly got infected. When i started developing fevers and oozing blood i went to the ER. That dr told me it was infected, he cleaned it a tiny bit and bandaged me up and sent me on my way. When i took my son to the DR the next day for a persistant rash, the doctor noticed an absess on his leg and immediately became worried, she gave us anti biotics and sent us home. The next day when it opened up I took him again so they could take cultures, that DR was a beast. He refused to give my 14 month novacaine while he used a scalple to cut open the absess on his thigh. Oh yeah between the day before and that day he got 2 more absesses. Anyway he was the one that linked my absess with sons and said that we may both have MRSA. My doctor acts like its nothing, wont even take cultures. His doctors freaked out practically and took very agressive measures. Basically i want to know should i be freaking out or not i havent been told a single thing about this besides the name.

I had MRSA. It was on the indide of my thigh. I though it was just a pimple or something, but soon a huge rash develeped. I had had it for a few days and could barely walk because it hurt so badly.

I ended up going to ER where they freaked, gave me a shot of an antibiotic, drained it (ew) and sent me home with a months supply of antibiotics and lidocane and vicodin for the pain.

I followed up the next day with MY doctor and he said as long as the rash didn't start going up my leg I was ok.

Anyways, they are not that resistant to antibiotics as I had it and it took care of it. It WAS scary.
They could have injected the site for your son...that was brutal. It's SO painful.
I would go back to the ER if yours is spreading like I said. It's not something to be messed with.

I would also go to a different doctor as suggested. That is aggressive stuff.

I called today and his was definately MRSA but he was on the right meds, he is sooo much better. I on the other hand have seen zero improvement from mine. I went back to see my doctor and all he did was measure it because it was bigger. I just don't get him.

Have your son's cultures come back and are they indeed MRSA. MRSA is a staph infection that is resistant to antibiotics. It used to be found only in hospitals, but is more and more common in the community. There are antibiotics that can kill community aquired MRSA, so it is important to have the cultures for the doctor to know what he's dealing with. When they do a culture, they also usually do what is called a "sensitivity" test which determines what antibiotics work for a particular organism. I don't think you need to freak out. Just do good handwashing, continue to take your antibiotics, wait for the culture results and go from there. If the antibiotics that you are currently taking aren't working, then they may have to change to something else. It is even possible that you may need IV antibiotics if it is indeed MRSA, but it sounds as if your sons dr. is on top of things. Your own may respond differently when he knows the culture results, too.
