My daughter won't be 5 at the start of kindergarten - she'll turn 5 two months after the start date. In my state - ohio - she legally CANNOT go to kindergarten at public school. She already has gone through preschool and has done testing to get into kindergarten since her whole class took the tests. she's testing above what some of her 5 year old classmates have tested. Her teachers say they keep forgetting she's the young one.
I was told you can home school for kindergarten at any age and then she could go right into first grade whenever she finished home schooled kindergarten curriculum. Does anyone have any information or good websites to help? I thought she had to turn 5 sometime during that school year to be in KG, not be 5 at the start or I probably wouldn't have put her in preschool. But she's in love with school now. I hate to hold her back when she's so eager to learn. Thoughts?

Yeah, when enrolling her in preschool I remembered someone say they should be 5 during kindergarten. so I though if she turned 5 during the first half of the year - the way laws USED to be - than she was fine and could start preschool. But she must be five at the start of school. I hate to send her through the same preschool twice and don't want to pay crazy tuition for private preschool since she's not allowed to go to KG even though she's testing above most her classmates. The more I hear about Canada...the more I want to move there!!! :) Just hoping she can continue education instead of stalling it for a year.

here in ontario canada, as long as your child turns 4 before december 31 of the year they are allowed to start kindergarten. That sounds weird to me that she cant go even though her birthday is a couple months later.

Thank you. I emailed my questions and concerns to a couple of the programs that were listed on there a few days ago [ k12.com and the keystones one]. I just haven't heard anything back yet.
