How can I get my 3 1/2 yr old to play games correctly and listen to instructions?

I got my daughter a leapfrog explorer so she could have a game in the car. When she's playing games she doesn't listen to instructions or pays attention to the game. Its very frustrating because I got her this so it would also help her with her numbers and such. Any thought on how to get her to listen to it? I've tried playing with her and showing her but she still doesn't listen so that turns into me taking it from her because I'm so frustrated.

People learn from the journey, not the destination. If you're pushing "proper" ways to play on her, she's going to get frustrated and even less focused on doing it. Let her play with it the way she wants, she'll learn from doing it and will eventually learn what works and what doesn't. Don't assume just because she isn't following instructions she isn't learning. Let her have fun with it.

If you want her to learn numbers and such w/ out the frustration of the computer, why don't you sing counting songs with her, give her picture flashcards or talk about numbers/letters/colors you see on the billboards passing by. Kids don't need computer games to learn. "Honey look! A big purple 3 on that sign!"
