Try reducing it in the day but still let her have it at night. It obviously gives her comfort. All three of my children had a dummy and they choose when they did not want it any more. My eldest son just ignored it from about 15 months my middle son had his at night only until about the age of three and my daughter now 2 has hers only at night and I do not put it in her mouth but she has it in her cot for her to choose. Sometimes she wants it but most of the time she just holds it in her hand. My sons are adults now and they have had no problems with there teeth. In fact my eldest now 19 and my 16 year old do not have any cavities and have perfectly straight teeth. So don't worry about it if your daughter wants a dummy let her decide when to get rid of it. This causes less stress for both of you and makes her feel more grown up.

my sister in law said that she used this method and it worked:

tell your daughter the only time she can have a paci is in her bed/crib(or somewhere where she wont get any fun around her). i know at 1 she wont completly understand but still. and just tell her she can spend all day with the paci but she has to stay in that spot. sooner or later she will get bored and want to be somewhere else without the paci because what kid will stay there for 3 hours sucking a paci. maybe it wont be until she understands whats going on but its worth a try

At around 16 months, when I put her in her highchair and give her breakfast, I take her pluggie (as we call it) and put it in the cupboard. She can go all day and not realize she doesn't have it, but I give it to her before bed.
She hasn't been feeling well the past week or so and we've been letting her have it again, but I have a feeling that was a bad idea... she seems to be whining for it now...
