how can you tell if your one month old can hear?

My daughter is one month and one week old. she dos not look at you if you are calling her name or if she hears loud sounds but she will give out a little wimper if the dogs bark. i think she might have something wrong with her hearing how can i tell before i take her back to the doctor?

they checked her hearing before we left the hospital and she dos not have her 2 month check up till the 6th of july and im going to ask her doctor to check her. thank you

Here in California they test all babies hearing before they leave the hospital... I dont know how it works where you are though.

There really IS no way to tell, without actually going to an audiologist. Some parents will try sneaking up behind the baby and clapping their hands, and when the baby turns around, they think the child's hearing is fine. But a child can have hearing loss and still be able to detect percussive sound.

It's not surprising that a one-month old wouldn't respond to her name just yet. But really, like I said, there's no way for the average person to be able to know for sure.

Do they do routine hearing tests in babies where you live? You might want to check with your public health office. I know that here in Nova Scotia, all babies automatically have their hearing tested when they're about 2 months old.
