How do i get my 18 month daughter to give up bottles?

My daughter will drink water and juice out of sippy cups but not milk. I have tried all kinds of sippy cups. she trows them all when she realizes it has milk it. The straw ones she just leans back and cant get anything out of it, the hard ones she just trows and doesnt touch it again, and the soft one she pushes in so it leaks everywhere. Any suggestions?

Do you NEED her to give them up just yet? My daughter is almost 3 and still gets her "milky bott" for going to bed at night. Soon I will drop this so she is having her glass of milk with dinner instead, but at the moment I don't see any harm in it, and it is a great comfort to her. I am not in the habit of doing things just because that's what everyone else does!

I went through the same thing with my boys. I think it is because milk is associated with the bottle. I just had to be persistent. I kept milk in the sippy cups and eventually they realised this is the only way they were going to get milk. She will give in at some point. As for which type of sippy cup. I got away from the softer spouts once they had a lot of teeth because they would break them when they bit on them. I used the hard spout cups until they were around 18 months or so and then switched to the ones with the straw. She just needs to learn that she needs to suck out of the straw in order to get anything out of it. Just like she needs to suck out of the spout for another cup. She will come around though. Just takes a bit of persistance. Good luck!
