How do i help my 3 1/2 over come of fear of out side toilets?

She's trained at home, but when out she would scream if i take her to the toilets. At daycare she would hold it for 8 hours. We had to put her back in diapers. I know she can do it because she does at home. Can help at daycare. She would go to daycare toilet if i am there, but i dont want to encourage her to wait for me. Any moms went through this?

There is a condition, I'm not sure if it's official or not, but my husband suffers the same! LOL...At least he trained himself to use public restrooms, but when we first married, I dont' know how many times we'd go home because he had to have a bowel movement, and was paranoid of public toilets. Thank Goodness he's not that way any more! And he conquered it before our kids were born...

Taking her special seat would be a good start tho...and maybe one of the daycare teachers would help by being her potty buddy...the one that she tells she needs to go. I'd make it 2 teachers, so that if one is gone, she'll have someone she's comfy with.

It seems to be a comfort thing. At home, it's familiar, she's comfortable with it, and YOU, mom, are there to make the bad/scary things not happen. Out of the house, it's unfamiliar, the bathrooms are echoey, and noisy, and the toilets make more noise, etc. If she has one or two people that can be the mom substitutes to keep the scary stuff at bay, she may be better.

Its funny (well, not for you ;-) ) ...I never had that problem. Of course, I was raised on a ranch, and anything from the nearest sagebrush to the outhouse out back was good in a pinch! LOL...And my boys would pee almost anywhere. Except, that is, rest areas! You know the ones with the pretty stainless steel toilets...Well my son told me he couldn't go THERE! I said "why, son?" "Because, mom, that's a TRASH CAN!" It's hard to explain the whole concept of an outhouse with just a hole in the ground for doing your a 3 year's a good thing there was a tree close that day...

best of luck with your little one, though.

Thank you for your comment.

They will not allow the seat for sanity reasons. She also will not ask them so go. I cannot send her to school this year because they will not take her if she's not trained. I hope she overcome this fear soon.

Can you bring her own seat? That's what I did. I had a fold up potty seat (can't find it now) but that's what I used. Maybe she is a germaphobe?
