How do I search for a pre-school/day care

[deleted account] ( 2 moms have responded )

Im a new SAHM and my daughter 18 months old has been with me since shes been born. I worry shes under developed and Im considering putting her in a day care/ school type environment to help her learn new skills and to interact with other children. I dont know what to look for and if 18 months is to early.

I agree with Sarah H., your daughter will only be little for a short time, why rush into school. Go to the library for story time and mommy and me classes. None of my kids started prek until age 4, they did one year of two mornings per week and then entered kindergarten. They were all fine and on target with their peers. If she will be an only child, then I see a benefit of starting prek at 3, but otherwise, just enjoy her. Read, sing, dance and talk to her about what you see and what you do during the day.
Are there particular reasons you are concerned or you just worry because she is not in formal daycare or educational setting.

My suggestion would be to wait until 3 yrs. for a preschool program. Right now I would find play groups. If you feel there are developmental concerns talk to your local school. They will link you up to Early Intervention and the can do a free evaluation.
