My son is almost 5 months and breastfed strictly. We really wanted to wait until he was 6 months old to start any other foods besides breastmilk but he is showing a very strong interest in food, like watching my husband and I eat and getting really excited, opening his mouth at the sight of food, overall just showing a strong interest in food. I want to wait as long as I can to start baby cereal but dont want to miss an opportunity. When I do start baby cereal, how often do I give it? How long do I give only baby cereal and when do I start introducing other foods?

I started my little girl on cereal puffs from walmart at 4 months. It was the walmart brand, because they were much softer than the Gerber brand. I just gave her a little bit for lunch before her bottle. It filled her up a little and kept her happy. Then when she was about 5 months I started he on some cereal. I think about an ounce of cereal for lunch. I did this for a while and then added it in for breakfast and dinner as well. I hope that this helps. The thing with babies is that they want to be big kids, so giving him some of this is not going to change that he is still your little boy.
